The Mythology of Teiwaz
Tyr is the god of Law and Justice. He is portrayed as one-handed after he sacrificed his hand to save the world. The gods tried to shackle the beast Fenris who was strong enough to break every chain. The dwarfs made a magical ribbon called Gleipnir, the only thing strong enough to keep Fenris tied up. Fenris refused to be bound by it unless one of the gods put their hand in his mouth. Tyr who is known for his courage agreed. When Fenris was bound and he realized he could not escape he bit off Tyr’s hand.
