The Meaning Of The Moon Tarot Card In A Love Reading

Is The Moon A Good Card To Get In A Question About Your Love Life?

The first thing I want to mention about the Moon tarot card is that when it comes to love it often signifies love between people and animals. Some people believe animals are unable to feel love. This is ignorant. Animals have an enormous ability to feel love, often purer and deeper than people. In a question about love between people the Moon symbolises relationships where people are looking to mend their broken hearts.

The Moon symbolises love that is blind. There is no denying that there is a dark side to the Moon tarot card. It speaks of the need people have for an exciting romance. What you need and what you want might be two different things; leading you towards danger and regrets. You might be chasing after something which will get you into trouble.

Learn the traditional meaning of the Moon tarot card here.

The Moon also speaks of secret love, or someone offering you love you can not have. Forbidden love might be the most painful of experiences, and the Moon asks you to avoid such darkness.

There is an imbalance of power seen in the Moon tarot card that often stems from the need to be dominated by someone. There is a fear of being bored, thus, a wish for dangerous/forbidden love arise. You might find that you are attracting a love interest who are unable to be fair and honest, OR you are the one that is secretive. One of you might be promising more than you can deliver; leaving the other one waiting.

The Moon in a love reading can denote that the seeker is in love with a fictional character either derived from their own mind or from characters seen in movies, books etc. The Moon shows up in a tarot reading when you need to discern between what is real and what is fantasy. True love is right there in front of you, but unless you pay attention you might miss it.

In relationships, the Moon tarot card denotes a period when the seeker is in love with love, an idea or a person who is not quite what they seem. There is plenty of things to be excited about if the seeker is willing to use logic and reason. You might have to get to know your partner all over again. On a more negative note; your partner might not be very easy to get to know, and you might be at a crossroad in your relationship.

Moon Tarot Card Love Meaning Summary

The Moon speak of love between animals and people. It speaks of love that is both pure and blind. In a question about love between people, it can signify you are in love with a fantasy and that this fantasy keeps you in a state of waiting. You might be in love with love, and you are waiting for your partner to become what you are dreaming of. If you are single and looking for love the Moon tarot card can be a warning that you are craving an adventure that can lead to dangerous love. The Moon asks you to be honest with yourself: What do you want vs what do you need? What you want can lead you on a path of heartbreak while what you need will be the light out of darkness. Romance is always available when the Moon is showing up in your tarot cards. The question is: Are you paying attention to those around you or are you too wrapped up in fantasy. Are you wanting what you cannot have?

    hi ingerc

what does it mean? can you please explain? does it mean bad for our relationship? and that there is a possible break up?

  2. Inger Bråthen December 8, 2016 at 5:00 am

Not at all, the Moon can indicate romance. The Moon also speaks of love for the creative world, and also love for animals. It could mean you will experience new things you didn’t know was available to you in the next 3 months period…

Hi, i am new to tarot reading and not sure if i’ve followed the steps correctly.. i did a half moon spread and picked 3 cards when i asked about my reconcilliation and possible happy ending with my ex boyfriend in the future.

i got the chariot (past), two of swords (present) and the moon (future).. can you help to explain? thanks so much!

  4. Inger Bråthen February 4, 2017 at 3:48 pm

Hi, Judith. The Moon can mean that you will feel a bit in the dark about where you stand with your ex. Things are not clear. I feel like you will need to talk openly and whole-heartedly as there are a lot of unsaid and unspoken feelings that have not yet been dealt with.

  5. Judith February 6, 2017 at 11:44 pm

Thanks so much for replying Inger!

To be honest, i caught him dating a new girl few months later even though he promised he wouldn’t date anyone and hoped to remain single when we broke up. He continued to claim that there isn’t deep feeling for this woman.

I am still pinning hope of reconcilliation despite feeling some sort of betrayal after so many months.

With the card combination above, would you mind explaining the entire story of how these had evolved to this stage and does it say there is possibility of reconcilliation and happy ending?

Also asking for a friend who wants to reconcile with her ex bf. She did a reverse version: reversed knight of sword (past), upright three of cups (present) and the world (future). She is also asking if there is happiness seen in the future between them

Hi, my reading produced The Moon card stating The moon card is a good omen if in a cladestine affair.

  7. Julie June 5, 2017 at 8:50 am

    Hi Inger,

I have been using your word spread as my tarot meaning guidance and I found it very helpful. I did a past, present, outcome spread. My question was “Tell me if there is a possibility for a romantic relationship between my love interest and I?” So I got Past: The lovers, Present: The Moon, Outcome: 9 of wands. From the past and present cards, I understood them as I believed that there is a mutual love connection between my love interested and I but I am doubting that connection recently. With the 9 of wands as outcome, I’m not sure if I am being too protective of my thought of him liking me back or if this relationship is simply too stressful and will not work out. So I drew 1 additional card to clarify the 9 of wands. I got Queen of Swords. Is the whole spread telling me that I thought there was a romantic possibility but I was being doubtful and starting to put barriers around me to protect myself from this stressful relationship?
I am sorry for the long post but please help me. Thank you very much.

Hi. I feel you are picking up some differences in your compatibility and therefore you are correct in protecting yourself. I also feel that for this relationship to work out, it would have to develop over time. I so think there is a connection between you that is real, and I also feel your love interest is someone who needs to know someone really well before makes a commitment.

Hi I had a love tarot reading and I am in a clandestine affair that has been going on for a year now. The first card was the sun and the second card I got was the moon and the outcome is justice. Does this mean that things are coming to an end?

  10. Inger Bråthen June 26, 2017 at 4:07 pm

It can mean you will have to choose the relationship you want to focus on. I also feel there will be more focus on work and career in your future.

  11. Ros June 26, 2017 at 8:53 pm

Thank you for your reply inger 😊

  12. Rose June 26, 2017 at 9:37 pm

Hi, I did a spread about love, and didn’t get THE moon card but 7 or 8 of the cards in the 13 card spread had moons on them. I used the mythical goddess deck. What is the significance of all these moons? I’m new to this, and I’ve noticed sometimes I get themes in spreads such as this. What do lots of moons mean? I did the reading about the Divine Masculine being that I am a twin flame and in separation.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi. The Moon often shows up when we are not seeing something clearly. We might see what we fear or what we desire, rather than the exactly what is going on. I also feel in your case, the Moon can represent a person wanting to know more about you, and you must be careful right now who you trust. I do feel there is a brand new beginning opening up for you, and you will create a new and exciting life for yourself. I also feel there is a lot of love in your life and an emotional connection will be strengthened.

Hi inger I had a tarot de acurario love reading the empress and pilgrimage came up. The question was can you see a future for me and the man I’m seeing and how does he feel about us. Can you interpret the meaning ? Thank you

  15. Inger Bråthen June 29, 2017 at 10:09 am

Hi, Ros. This card combination indicates he is very happy with how things are going at the moment.

  16. Anon August 9, 2017 at 2:58 am

HI Inger, thank-you so much for all your input and help, so generous and giving of your knowledge and energy! I would like to know what it means when I held my love interest in my mind and out popped The Moon, then the Emperor then the 2 of cups? Any insight is greatly appreciated! xxx p.s. love this sight so much, absolutely incredible work you have done 😀

  17. Inger Bråthen August 9, 2017 at 3:01 pm

The moon says things will be a bit confusing for a while, and you might begin to doubt if the connection is real or not. I do think you will be in love soon with someone who is perfect for you, and this person has a strong personality and wants to be in a relationship.

  18. N September 24, 2017 at 8:44 pm

Great insight. The Moon card came up specifically as someone’s feelings for me. It was clarified by the six of swords. Something secret happened between us that I suspect overwhelmed the person. While I do have romantic feelings for the person, the occurrence itself was not romantic nor sexual. However, it was still very deep, intense, and emotional. In my heart I feel they think and feel a lot about what happened, yet they have gone totally silent. It is almost as if intentionally keeping me in the dark. It is hurting me because my soul believes this person was impacted just as strongly as I was and may even feel something for me yet they have been painfully silent. I know they sense how deeply I care for them and what happened, so why are they doing this? What do you feel these cards mean? Any help is appreciated.

  19. Inger Bråthen September 25, 2017 at 7:51 pm

Hi, N. The Moon often means the person feels very confused about what is real and this person could be just in the dark and is feeling unsure about how they feel.

  20. N September 26, 2017 at 1:42 am

Thank you, I can see that being the case Inger. Does the moon signify a confusion that involves very intense feelings that weigh heavily on the person, or more of a subconscious confusion pushed to the back of their mind? Does it involve romantic feelings at all or just general confusion?

Also, how does the six of swords affect the moon? The six of cups keeps recurring as his feelings as well and the lovers as what he wants to do (make a tough decision about something I guess, maybe whether or not he should end his silence). 6 is a theme with this situation. I am sorry for so many questions, I just get a bit confused by the cards.

  21. Inger Bråthen October 1, 2017 at 12:23 pm

Hi. If 6 is the theme of your cards then it indicates that you need to be in charge of your life and in control over your life. Focus on what you want and set yourself goals and targets to move towards. Instead of asking the cards what will happen, ask the cards: how can I best achieve my goals? 🙂

  22. N October 1, 2017 at 1:07 pm

So essentially six themed cards are showing up because I am at the stage where the experience of the situation must be utilized as a catalyst for achieving my goals. This is interesting because my soul actually felt this and I know for a fact that the answer you chose to give was ordained to remind me. Thanks.

  23. Inger Bråthen October 1, 2017 at 3:45 pm

Yes, that is it exactly 🙂

  24. N October 1, 2017 at 11:48 pm

Ok definitely going to use the advice, thank you again Inger 🙂

  25. Rickey October 2, 2017 at 10:08 am

Hi Inger, I did a 5 card love spread with regards to my love interest and The Moon card came up in the position representing her, and the the Strength card came up representing me, first. does having two Major Arcana cards representing two people mean something ‘soulmatish’? how would you interpret The Moon card as a love interest?

  26. Inger Bråthen October 2, 2017 at 6:47 pm

The moon can mean she is very a very emotional person, and she most likely has a dramatic flair, and she could also have artistic talents.
