Symbolism in Judgement tarot card

In the Golden Dawn, this card represented the Higher Genius, a symbol of the divine self. The angel is Archangel Gabriel. Gabriel is the angel for messages. Gabriel’s trumpet symbolises the afterlife’s triumph over death, denoting endings followed by positive new beginnings. The white banner with the orange cross is a standard Christian symbol derived from the victory banner of Constantine, the first Christian Emperor. When held by Gabriel it symbolises victory over death. A man, a woman and a child are being called from the tomb of ego consciousness. The three people are reflected on the other side of the river, another symbol of the soul’s victory over death. The three people are also a symbol of the three pillars of the tree of life. The ocean represents the end of the river, symbolising individuals coming together for a greater good. The mountains represent the structure that surrounds us all.

    What will happened, if:
A.) I stay where I work, and wait (the shop is in trouble because of the low profit and )
I got the Ace of Cups reversed

    B) I’m looking for another job again
    I got the Hierophant reversed

    C) I learn something brand new for a brand new career
I got the Five of Cups reversed

    (All reversed! :O)

And I asked the cards for a career adwice ,and I got the Judgment upright.

Judgement is about your highest and best path in life, the reason you were born you might say. So it could be that you are meant to focus on that at the moment. Maybe your career and your path are different….Or it could mean you are meant to reinvent where you are currently (which I feel is more right). Sometimes with reversed cards, look at the card before, so Ace of cups reversed is king of cups, hierophant reversed is Emperor, Five of cups reversed is four of cups. King of cups and Emperor are energies that rise to the challenge of any situation and turn them around to be successful…I think you are meant to turn around where you are now and make it successful…that could be part of your life purpose…

    Hello Inger,
I asked “will I get pregnant in 2017?” using the universal tarot, no reversed, no positional meaning.
I usually do not ask yes/no question but I could not help.

Judgement – page of Swords – 8 of wands
    base card: 2 of cups.
So judgement here indicates the decision that will turn my world around. The page of Swords can show the child to come and the 8 of wands might mean that things will occur rather quickly. The 2 of cups as the base possibly indicate the connection with my Partner that will lead to the creation of the baby.
I am not unbiased so can you tell me what you think of this spread, please?

    Thank you!

  6. Inger Bråthen November 21, 2016 at 7:35 pm

Hi, I believe this is a yes, because all the elemental dignities in Judgement, page of swords, and 8 of wands are friendly, which in yes/no questions often mean a yes. 🙂

  7. LAURENCE November 21, 2016 at 10:44 pm

Thanks for your answer. Never thought before about using elemental dignities for yes/no but It makes great sense when not using any positional meaning. In this case fire and Air are friendly so It looks promising. Thanks Inger!

    Hi Inger,

Thank you for your awesome interpretation! Your page is such a great source for us tarot enthusiast! 🙂

I asked the card about signs and warning about this new guy I started “talking to” this past month. It was a three cards spread with two clarification cards.

My three card were: the Lover, three of cups and the Magician and my two clarification card were: Judgement and kinh of cups.

I take this as a really good signs, but of course I am biased! Please tell me what you think of this spread 🙂

    Thank you so much!

  9. Inger Bråthen November 27, 2016 at 7:34 am

Hi, Stephanie. The cards you are getting are great. The Magician speaks of you having a soulmate connection, and this is clarified by the Lovers card as well. 🙂

I can tell by the cards that you are ready to move on, however, the opportunity to do so has not yet presented itself. I think it will though, a door will open, and you will be able to move forward soon…..

  14. Jen June 30, 2017 at 2:36 pm

Hi Inger, I asked if me and my boyfriend will be together in the future. I did a past present and future reading and got the cards Judgement as past, Death as present and Ace of Wands in the future. Can you interpret this for me. Thanks for your time.

  15. Inger Bråthen July 1, 2017 at 8:09 am

When Judgement and Death show up together in a reading, it could be a ‘near death’ experience of your relationship, however, ace of wands indicates a new beginning for you.

  16. Ana August 7, 2017 at 8:44 pm

Hi! I asked whether I will be in a relationship by the end of the year. I got Judgment as the main card and as clarifiers I got : 4 of pentacle, 4 of swords and 5 of wands.
What does that mean? Can you please help me read this spread? Thank you so much!

  17. Inger Bråthen August 12, 2017 at 8:39 am

Double 4 in a reading always speak of a commitment. 5 of Wands speaks of someone you share very similar weaknesses and strengths as, and you have similar personality traits. You could have some clashes as a result.

  18. Erin June 3, 2018 at 4:10 am

    Hi Inger,

Your site is SO helpful and I love how concise your interpretations are. Also thank you for posting combined card meanings!
I keep getting Judgement and the Hierophant together about a relationship, or I’ll just get the Hierophant. I get it when looking about the connection/outlook but also his feelings for me. I use Doreen Virtue’s Angel Tarot so technically they’re called “Renewal” and “Unity.” Usually surrounded by positive cards– a happy cup card or two, ace of wands, king of pentacles, eight of wands, and the like. I’m really struggling to understand the meaning and if it’s positive (meant-to-be kind of relationship) or negative (I don’t live up to his traditional judgements)…. He is someone from my past but we’ve never dated. Any ideas?

    Thank you <3

  19. Ingie from TW June 7, 2018 at 8:35 am

Hi, Erin. This card combination can mean there is a past life connection between you. He could have been a spouse in your recent past lives. Judgement often speaks of something being renewed, and it can mean past life connections as well.
