Elder Futhark Rune Meanings
The Runes is an ancient form of divination. The earliest mentioning of the Runes is from the medieval book called the ‘Poetic Edda’ written in the 1270s. The elder futhark is considered to be the oldest version of the Runes and was the written and symbolic art form between the 2nd and 8th centuries. The Elder Futhark consists of 24 letters which are divided into 3 equal rows called aetts. The first aett represents life cycle, the second aett represents outside influences and the third aett represents internal influences. Each letter holds much energy and can be used for magic. The letters can also be combined together in what is called rune binding for magical purposes. Runes can be carved onto rocks, bones, crystals, clay and wood. Runes can be cast and read by looking at how the symbols make patterns with the other runes. It is also common to cast Runes on diagrams (also called Rune cloths). See below for diagram you can print out and use in your Rune divination.

The runes are powerful, magical and wise. They will speak to you exactly at the level where you are at and at the same time challenge you to evolve further. Some rune sites will warn you against a dark side of the runes, and that they can turn against you if you are not careful. I think the darkness in the runes reflects on a darkness in the person or in a situation. The runes are are not turning against you, but simply showing you what is hidden so that light can shine on it. The runes will tell you that what is hurting you now, can quickly and effortlessly pass. I do all my work through the Creator of All that is, Source. In this energy we are all equal with all that is and there is no good or bad, simply things just are. The runes will connect you with your destiny. I like to say, let go of your fate and claim your destiny.
The 24 runes have special meanings connected to the four Elements. These connections are explained as each rune is described. Print out the Elemental diagram called a Rune Cloth as seen above. Cast your runes on top of the Rune Cloth (print out the diagrams below). See which runes land where and start practice your interpretation. Pay most attention to the element that most runes fall upon as you cast your runes.
